East African leaders recently convened for the 25th East African Community Heads of State Summit in Arusha, where discussions emphasized regional integration as a pathway to improving citizens’ livelihoods.

The summit highlighted cooperation in infrastructure, trade, education, and digital development. Leaders stressed that regional integration is not only an economic priority but also a social development agenda aimed at expanding opportunities for millions of East Africans.

Uganda has expanded visa-free entry policies, reinforcing regional mobility and strengthening cross-border connections within East Africa. The initiative aligns with the East African Community Common Market framework, which promotes free movement of people and services among member states.

The policy is expected to improve opportunities for business, education, tourism, and employment across the region. By lowering travel barriers, governments aim to strengthen social ties and increase regional economic integration.

Analysts say improved mobility also supports social development by enabling students, workers, and entrepreneurs to move more easily across borders, fostering knowledge exchange and regional collaboration.
