Despite progress in legislating women’s economic rights, a new World Bank Group report reveals a stark gap between equality laws on the books and their enforcement in practice. According to the latest Women, Business and the Law 2026 report, laws designed to ensure equal economic opportunities for women are, on average, only half-enforced worldwide, significantly weakening their impact on women’s participation in the economy.
Communities in South Sudan are receiving a boost in access to justice through an expanding network of mobile courts, bringing legal services directly to citizens in remote and underserved areas. The innovative initiative is helping to ease the burden on an already strained judicial system and improve public trust in legal institutions. The effort comes as part of broader efforts to promote stability and the rule of law in the world’s youngest nation.
Funding gaps are placing the lives of more than 1.9 million displaced people in South Sudan at heightened risk, as humanitarian needs continue to rise across the country, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
