The World Bank Group and the African Development Bank Group announced that Mission 300 has connected more than 50 million people to electricity across 40 African countries.

The initiative, launched in 2024, aims to connect 300 million people to electricity by 2030. The World Bank said Mission 300 is now delivering electricity access at nearly double the pace recorded at the start of the initiative.

East Africa is among the regions recording major gains. Tanzania has connected 7.5 million people under the initiative, while Ethiopia has connected 4.6 million people, supported by financing and reforms that made grid connections more affordable.

The programme invests across generation, transmission, last-mile distribution, and off-grid access, with the aim of improving electricity access for households, businesses, and public institutions.

The World Bank and AfDB said nearly $15 billion has been committed by the two institutions, with additional co-financing and partner pledges supporting Africa’s energy access agenda.
