WHO Ethiopia and AHRI Explore Strategic Health Innovation Partnership
Addis Ababa | 11 June 2026
The World Health Organization Ethiopia Country Office and the Armauer Hansen Research Institute are exploring a strategic partnership to advance health research, innovation, local pharmaceutical production and health security.
WHO said the collaboration is intended to strengthen scientific cooperation and support Ethiopia’s broader health systems agenda.
The engagement comes as countries across East Africa work to expand local research capacity, improve disease preparedness, and reduce dependence on imported health products.
AHRI is one of Ethiopia’s key biomedical research institutions, with work spanning infectious diseases, immunology, clinical research and health innovation.
The proposed partnership is expected to support areas linked to research translation, local manufacturing, health security and innovation systems that can contribute to national and regional health priorities.
