UNFPA Marks World Population Day highlighting Tanzania's demographic choices

The United Nations Population Fund marked World Population Day 2026 by highlighting its partnership with the Government of Tanzania to support young people's health, economic resilience and demographic planning. UNFPA said the observance shifts the conversation on population from demographic trends to the hopes, aspirations and choices of young women and men across the country.

The statement built on UNFPA's continuing implementation of the Kijana Imara programme, a Canadian government funded initiative delivered jointly with UNICEF, through which more than 1.2 million adolescents across Songwe, Dodoma and Zanzibar have gained improved access to adolescent friendly health services, digital engagement platforms, vocational skills training and childcare support for first time young mothers.

UNFPA said continued partnership between the Government of Tanzania, development partners and communities is building a future where every young person has the opportunity to realise their aspirations, create the families they want and contribute to a prosperous nation.
