African governments are being equipped with tools to better manage sovereign credit ratings.

The United Nations Development Programme launched a new e-learning course on 1 April 2026, aimed at helping African government officials better understand sovereign credit ratings.

In its official press release, UNDP noted that the training will provide practical guidance on how fiscal policies influence creditworthiness and investor perception.

Officials emphasized that improved understanding of credit systems could help governments reduce borrowing costs and strengthen financial sustainability.

The initiative comes at a time when many East African countries are seeking alternative financing strategies for infrastructure and development.
