Uganda Records No New Ebola Cases Since 21 June; 15 Patients Have Recovered

KAMPALA, 30 June 2026

Uganda had reported no new confirmed cases of Bundibugyo virus disease since 21 June 2026, as of the latest official update covering data through 30 June. The Ministry of Health confirmed a total of 20 confirmed cases and two deaths. Of the 20 confirmed cases, 15 had travel links to the DRC, and five were associated with local transmission events within Uganda. Fifteen individuals have now recovered. The ECDC epidemiological update published on 1 July, incorporating data as of 30 June, confirmed Uganda's stable position. All cases in Uganda have been detected in Kampala, and one in the Wakiso district surrounding the capital. Uganda maintained its border closure with DRC, which had been announced on 27 May for a minimum period of four weeks.

Uganda's Ministry of Health continues to operate surveillance and screening systems at Entebbe International Airport, all land border crossings with DRC, and other key points of entry. WHO has commended Uganda for its rapid containment of local transmission, citing the country's previous experience responding to multiple Ebola outbreaks including outbreaks caused by the Sudan and Bundibugyo species. The last confirmed case in Uganda was reported on 21 June, and the country moved through the final days of June without any reported new infections.

South Sudan and the Central African Republic, which share land borders with Haut-Uele, have been placed in a higher-risk category by WHO following confirmation that the outbreak has now reached that province.
