The East African Development Brief
Date of Release: May 5, 2026
The Government of Uganda has concluded all technical and security preparations for the swearing-in of President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, scheduled for May 12, 2026. The theme, “Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status,” signals a clear policy direction toward industrial transformation and increased processing capacity. For international investors, this event represents political continuity, which is vital for long-term supply chain planning and capital expenditure in the region. The Minister for the Presidency confirmed that over ten international delegations and several heads of state will attend the ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. Beyond the ceremony, the administration is focused on implementing a new manifesto that prioritizes agricultural value addition and wealth creation. This strategic focus aims to transition more subsistence households into the money economy, thereby broadening the domestic consumer base. The inauguration marks the formal commencement of a five-year term dedicated to making Uganda a competitive regional trade hub.
