EA News Health Report

Progress is real, but too slow. Preventable child deaths remain one of the region’s most urgent failures.

A new global report released on 18 March 2026 brings a difficult truth back into focus: while child mortality is declining, the pace is slowing, and too many children are still dying from causes we already know how to prevent.

Nearly 5 million children under five died globally, many within their first month of life. In East Africa, where access to maternal and neonatal care remains uneven, the impact is deeply felt.

This isn’t about innovation.
It’s about reach.

Basic interventions, skilled birth attendance, early neonatal care, vaccinations—exist. But they are not reaching every child, every time.

The gap is no longer knowledge.
It’s consistency.
