The East African Development Brief

Date of Release: May 6, 2026

Stakeholders in Dar es Salaam have convened to participate in a comprehensive review of the Public Procurement Act, Chapter 410, to ensure it aligns with the nation’s Vision 2050. The Ministry of Finance is leading these discussions to modernize the legal framework governing how the state acquires goods, works, and services. For supply chain managers, this review is a critical development that could streamline government procurement processes and enhance transparency in large-scale infrastructure projects. The government has pledged to improve the environment for small-scale traders, including "Wamachinga," by integrating them into more formal procurement chains. This reform process is part of a broader effort to make the Tanzanian economy more inclusive and resilient. By updating procurement regulations, the state aims to achieve greater value for money and accelerate the implementation of flagship development projects. The new laws will also incorporate digital standards to support the transition to an electronic government procurement system.
