Tanzania, the European Union, and the United Nations Capital Development Fund have aligned actions to support the country’s target of reaching 80 percent clean cooking access by 2034.

The announcement followed the National Clean Cooking Conference held in Arusha from 10 to 11 June under the theme of advancing Tanzania’s clean cooking future.

The Government of Tanzania is working to expand access by strengthening policy frameworks, mobilising financing, empowering communities, and expanding private sector engagement.

UNCDF reported that clean cooking access increased from 16 percent in 2022 to 28.6 percent by March 2026, supported by LPG subsidies, reduced electricity tariffs, tax waivers on clean cooking equipment, and partner initiatives.

Through the CookFund programme, more than 413,000 households have been reached, benefiting nearly 1.94 million people. The programme has also supported 961 businesses and 45 public institutions, including schools.
