Senior health officials from twelve countries in East, Central, and Southern Africa have concluded discussions aimed at strengthening regional cooperation on disease surveillance and emergency response.
The meeting, convened through the East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC), focused on formalizing cross-border collaboration mechanisms designed to improve detection and management of health emergencies.
Participants reviewed lessons from recent outbreaks and discussed strategies for information sharing, laboratory coordination, workforce deployment, and emergency preparedness.
The discussions took place amid heightened concern over Ebola transmission risks and broader regional efforts to strengthen health security systems.
