Refugee-led organisations in Rwanda invited to join graduate scholarship mentorship programme

Refugee and forcibly displaced African learners in Rwanda are being invited to apply for a new Graduate Horizons mentorship programme designed to help them pursue master's-level study and competitive international scholarships for the 2027 academic year.

UNHCR Rwanda published the opportunity on 2 October in partnership with the Refugee-Led Research and Higher Education initiative.

The programme is aimed at African learners with a forced-displacement background who are interested in pursuing a master's degree in 2027 and seeking full scholarship opportunities covering areas such as tuition, visas, travel and living costs.

Participating or highlighted university pathways include Oxford, Cambridge, Sciences Po, UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon University Africa, the University of Global Health Equity, AIMS, the American University of Cairo and the American University of Beirut.

The mentorship programme is intended to provide applicants with guidance and resources for preparing applications, securing admission and identifying suitable scholarship opportunities.

The initiative is significant because access to postgraduate education can remain difficult for refugees and other displaced learners even when they have the academic qualifications required for admission. Financial barriers, application processes and limited access to professional networks can prevent qualified candidates from progressing.

The programme therefore combines scholarship information with practical application support.

Applications for the mentorship programme close on 25 October 2026.

UNHCR's announcement also indicates that participants interested in other universities and scholarships with forthcoming deadlines can receive support identifying and preparing for additional opportunities.
