The proposed railway linkage between Uganda and Tanzania marks a strategic shift in East Africa’s trade geography, offering an alternative to traditional transport routes that have long dominated regional commerce.

By connecting Uganda more directly to the Port of Dar es Salaam, the project reduces reliance on northern corridors and introduces greater flexibility into regional logistics networks. This diversification is expected to enhance resilience, particularly in the face of disruptions that have historically affected single-route dependencies.

The initiative aligns with the East African Railway Master Plan, which envisions a fully interconnected rail network spanning multiple countries.
