Mpox continues to pose a significant health threat across East Africa, with multiple countries reporting varying levels of transmission and response capacity.

According to recent regional assessments, the Democratic Republic of Congo remains the epicenter, while Uganda and Burundi have experienced sustained transmission. Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania have reported lower case numbers but remain on high alert.

Health authorities highlight that disparities in healthcare infrastructure and surveillance systems have influenced outcomes across countries. For instance, Kenya has reported a relatively higher case fatality rate compared to its neighbors, despite fewer total cases.

Efforts to contain the outbreak include vaccination campaigns, contact tracing, and public awareness initiatives. However, misinformation and limited vaccine access continue to challenge response efforts.

Experts stress that a unified regional strategy is critical to effectively control the spread of the disease.
