Kenya Manages Four Concurrent Disease Outbreaks Alongside Ebola Risk
Nairobi, Kenya | WHO AFRO situation reporting, week 28, July 2026
Kenya's Ministry of Health, working with WHO, is currently responding to multiple concurrent public health emergencies: mpox across 39 counties with 1,170 cumulative cases and 19 deaths, measles in six counties, cholera in two counties and dengue fever in two counties, according to the latest WHO AFRO weekly situation report.
The country is additionally classified high-risk for Bundibugyo virus importation given its shared borders with DRC and Uganda, and continues enhanced screening at points of entry, with roughly 6,700 travellers screened in a recent 24-hour reporting period. Four new confirmed mpox cases were reported in the past week from Mombasa, Nairobi and Kirinyaga counties.
A ten-day mpox vaccination campaign using 20,000 available doses has been targeting Mombasa, Kilifi and Busia counties, the three counties assessed at highest risk.
