Kenya Health Ministry Advances Local Manufacturing Strategy

Nairobi | 17 June 2026

Kenya’s Ministry of Health listed the signing of the Local Manufacturing Strategy 2026 to 2030 on its official platform on 17 June 2026.

The strategy is intended to support local production of health products and technologies as part of Kenya’s health systems and industrial development agenda.

Local manufacturing has become a major policy priority across Africa following supply disruptions during recent global health emergencies.

For Kenya, the strategy is relevant to medicine security, health product availability, jobs, industrial capacity and Universal Health Coverage reforms.

The Ministry of Health platform lists the strategy as part of its latest updates, placing local manufacturing within the current reform agenda.

Kenya is also positioning itself as a regional health and life sciences hub, with ongoing interest in pharmaceutical production, medical supplies, biotechnology and health technology.

The strategy is expected to contribute to reduced dependence on imports and stronger domestic capacity for essential health commodities.
