Kenya and UK Renew Five-Year Health Alliance

NAIROBI/LONDON, Kenya/UK — 29 July 2026

Kenya and the United Kingdom have renewed their health partnership for another five years, extending cooperation in healthcare delivery, research, workforce development and health-system strengthening. The Kenya–UK Health Alliance (KUKHA) was renewed in London on 29 July, according to Kenya's Ministry of Health. The renewed partnership will run from 2026 to 2031 and builds on collaboration between Kenyan and UK health institutions.

The alliance brings together government institutions, health organisations, academic institutions and other partners to support areas of mutual interest in health. The renewal comes at a time when Kenya is pursuing significant health-system reforms, including the transition toward the Social Health Authority and efforts to expand access to primary and specialised healthcare. The UK–Kenya relationship has also supported professional exchange and institutional partnerships between health facilities and universities in both countries. For Kenya's health-development sector, the partnership is significant because it combines technical cooperation with workforce development and research. These areas are increasingly important as the country seeks to address shortages of specialised health professionals and improve quality of care.

The renewed agreement also comes amid a broader shift in global health cooperation, with countries placing greater emphasis on locally led systems, institutional capacity and sustainable financing. The partnership could provide a platform for continued collaboration on clinical services, health research, medical education and innovation.
