Kenya and Africa CDC Deepen Collaboration on Health Security

Nairobi | 10 June 2026

Kenya and Africa CDC have opened high-level consultations aimed at strengthening cooperation on regional health security, epidemic preparedness, and Africa’s capacity to respond to public health emergencies.

The talks were led by Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, and Africa CDC Deputy Director General, Dr. Raji Tajudeen. The engagement comes at a time when countries across East Africa continue to strengthen preparedness systems following recurrent disease outbreaks, climate-related health risks, and cross-border population movement.

Kenya’s Ministry of Health said the discussions focused on improving epidemic response capacity, strengthening surveillance systems, and deepening collaboration between national and continental public health institutions.

The meeting also reinforced Kenya’s role as a regional health hub, particularly in emergency coordination, laboratory systems, workforce capacity, and preparedness for infectious disease threats.

The engagement comes as African governments continue to push for stronger domestic and regional systems to reduce dependence on emergency-led responses and improve early detection, coordination, and response.
