East Africa News Economic Development
East African leaders have unveiled a bold new regional strategy aimed at accelerating economic integration and deepening cooperation across the bloc. The new EAC Development Strategy (2026/27–2030/31) outlines plans to strengthen trade, infrastructure connectivity, and policy coordination among member states.
The roadmap envisions a more integrated region with a single currency and deeper political cooperation by 2030, reflecting growing recognition that regional collaboration is essential for economic resilience. With eight member states now participating, the strategy seeks to move beyond policy dialogue to faster implementation of cross-border infrastructure, trade reforms, and digital systems.
Regional analysts note that stronger integration could reduce trade barriers, improve supply chains, and expand regional markets for East African businesses. However, financing challenges remain a major concern as governments balance infrastructure investments with fiscal pressures.
If implemented effectively, the strategy could position East Africa as one of the most integrated economic blocs on the continent.
