EAC News Inside Health

East African health leaders convened in Nairobi for the East African Forum on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM), signaling renewed regional momentum to formally integrate traditional medicine into national health systems.

The forum brought together policymakers, researchers, regulators, and practitioners to discuss harmonized standards, regulatory frameworks, and evidence-based approaches to ensure traditional medicine practices are safe, ethical, and aligned with public health goals.

Kenya’s Health Cabinet Secretary emphasized that traditional medicine remains a primary source of healthcare for many communities and requires stronger governance, research backing, and formal recognition within healthcare systems.

Advocates argue that properly regulated integration can expand access to culturally relevant care, particularly in rural and underserved populations.
