EACOP hands over 200 maternity kits to support maternal and newborn care in Uganda

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project has handed over 200 maternity kits in Hoima District, Uganda, as part of efforts to support maternal and newborn healthcare.
The handover was reported on 25 September 2026 through EACOP's official news and events platform. The initiative forms part of the project's community support activities in areas affected by its infrastructure development.
Maternity kits are intended to provide essential supplies for childbirth and immediate newborn care. Depending on their contents and distribution arrangements, such kits can support safer deliveries and help health workers maintain basic hygiene during childbirth.
The intervention is particularly relevant in communities where access to adequately equipped health facilities and maternal healthcare supplies remains a challenge.
The handover comes amid wider efforts by Uganda's health authorities and development partners to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes through stronger health facilities, skilled birth attendance and access to essential supplies.
EACOP also reported an inspection of construction work on a maternal and child healthcare wing at Mbaraara Health Centre II on the same date. The construction update indicates a separate infrastructure-related health intervention associated with the project's community activities.
The announcements do not establish the total number of mothers expected to benefit from the kits or provide a detailed assessment of the healthcare wing's completion timetable.
Both activities demonstrate the role of community investment initiatives in supporting local health services alongside broader infrastructure development.
