The East African Development Brief

The East African Community (EAC) has taken a significant step toward technological integration by convening a Regional Validation Workshop for its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy in Kampala. From a global supply chain perspective, this framework is critical as it seeks to standardize the governance and deployment of AI across the eight Partner States. Spearheaded by the East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO), the workshop brought together technical experts, academia, and private sector leaders to validate a roadmap for responsible AI development. For logistics professionals, the implementation of this strategy promises enhanced predictive analytics and automated systems that can drastically reduce transit times and operational costs within the region. The EAC is positioning itself to leverage AI sovereignty and establish a regional AI fund to support these high-tech initiatives. By harmonizing digital policies, the bloc is creating a more predictable environment for international tech investors and supply chain service providers. This move aligns with the broader EARDIP project, which aims to advance digital market integration and cross-border services.
