DRC Ebola Outbreak Accelerates Sharply to 3,200 Confirmed Cases
Ituri, DRC | Data to 25 July, reported 26 to 27 July 2026
The Democratic Republic of Congo reported 3,200 confirmed Bundibugyo virus disease cases and 1,405 related deaths as of 26 July, according to ECDC, data current to 25 July. This marks an increase of 125 new confirmed cases and 51 deaths in a single day, and a rise of 294 cases and 136 deaths in the three days since ECDC's previous update on 24 July, one of the fastest reported accelerations of the outbreak to date.
The new cases were concentrated in Ituri (115), North Kivu (seven) and Haut Uele (three). Ituri remains the epicentre with 2,848 cases and 1,184 deaths across 28 of 36 health zones. A total of 773 patients are currently hospitalised in isolation, 571 have recovered, and 77.8 percent of identified case contacts are under active follow-up across the four affected provinces.
Uganda's situation remains stable by comparison, holding at 20 confirmed cases and 2 deaths with no new cases since 21 June, and continuing its 42-day enhanced surveillance countdown following the discharge of its last patient on 16 July.
