Digital Realty Opens 6.4MW NBO2 Data Centre, Expanding Nairobi's Digital Infrastructure
Nairobi, Kenya, 7 September 2026
Digital Realty, the world's largest cloud- and carrier-neutral data centre platform, has opened its 6.4-megawatt Nairobi Two (NBO2) facility in Karen, expanding its Nairobi campus alongside the existing Nairobi One (NBO1) site. The launch coincides with the rebranding of iColo, the Kenyan operator Digital Realty acquired, to the Digital Realty name across Kenya and Mozambique. Together, NBO1 and NBO2 form a campus offering more than 34,000 square metres of space and over 14 megawatts of total IT power capacity.
Principal Secretary for ICT and the Digital Economy John Tanui said government efforts are focused on attracting further investment into the digital economy and creating opportunities for young Kenyans. The facility is designed to support cloud providers, financial institutions and internet service providers, offering interconnection to more than 100 networks, two internet exchange points and a satellite teleport for regions with limited terrestrial infrastructure.
The expansion arrives amid rising regional demand for data centre capacity driven by artificial intelligence, cloud services and digital payments, and reinforces Nairobi's positioning as East Africa's gateway for technology investment, alongside rival facilities operated by Africa Data Centres and others in the city.
