The East African Development Brief
Date of Release: May 5, 2026
President Évariste Ndayishimiye has ramped up efforts to mobilize decentralized services for the rigorous implementation of Burundi’s Vision 2040-2060. During high-level meetings in Burunga and Gitega, the Chef de l'État called for strict adherence to indicators within the pillars of emergent economic growth. For supply chain managers, Burundi's focus on structural reforms and sustainable development is critical for building the necessary infrastructure to support regional trade. The government is emphasizing hygiene and sanitation as essential foundations for public health and labor productivity. These sessions also addressed the need for administrative capacity building at the provincial and communal levels to ensure efficient governance of development projects. President Ndayishimiye’s mobilization efforts are designed to align all levels of government with the goal of transitioning Burundi into a developed nation by 2060. This vision includes digitalizing public services and nutrition tracking, inspired by successful South-South cooperation models.
