AfDB to convene East Africa regulators on Mission 300 electricity access

The African Development Bank Group announced it will host a webinar on 14 July 2026 focused on regulatory readiness for Mission 300 in East Africa, bringing together regional electricity regulatory authorities, senior officials from African energy ministries, development partners and Mission 300 Compact Delivery and Monitoring Units. Mission 300 is the joint African Development Bank and World Bank initiative to connect 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030, launched following the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration endorsed by 48 countries in January 2025.

The Bank said the session will present key findings from the Electricity Regulation Index regional brief on regulatory convergence in East Africa, along with a policy brief on the region's Mission 300 energy compacts. The dialogue is intended to examine how regulatory reforms, development of regional electricity markets and improved utility performance can support implementation of national energy compacts across East African countries participating in the initiative, including Kenya, Ethiopia and Burundi.

The announcement follows the Bank's report in June that Mission 300 has supported more than 50 million new electricity connections across 40 African countries since its 2024 launch.
